Advocacy that gets results.

Charleen Peterson Cheng, RN, MSN

Hi, I’m Charleen and caring for people and helping them navigate their healthcare has been at the center of my life for more than 25 years. Throughout my nursing career, I've had the privilege of caring for patients in some of the most complex moments of their lives, while also supporting friends, family, and neighbors as they navigate their own healthcare journeys.

My experience has taken me across critical care and trauma, interventional radiology, outpatient care, long-term care, and hospital leadership. Today, I work as a hospital house supervisor, overseeing hospital operations and responding to the clinical and operational challenges that arise across an entire hospital.

That breadth has given me a deep understanding of how healthcare works, but it has also taught me the importance of listening carefully and asking the right questions. After more than two decades of caring for patients and working alongside physicians, nurses, and healthcare leaders, I've developed the clinical judgment to recognize when something doesn't quite make sense and the experience to know where to look for answers.

If you or someone you love could use a nurse in your corner, I'd be honored to help.

My commitment to advocacy became especially personal through my father.

When he was first experiencing weakness in his legs and difficulty walking, he was referred to a neurosurgeon who recommended spinal surgery. His spine did have problems, but his symptoms didn't seem to fit the explanation. I encouraged him to see a neurologist, who recognized that something else was happening and ultimately referred him to an ALS specialist.

That experience gave our family something incredibly valuable: time. My father lived with ALS for ten years, and throughout that journey I helped coordinate his care, organize a 24-hour caregiving team, work with healthcare providers and social services, and adapt his home with technology so he could remain there as his abilities changed.

There were many doctors, nurses, and caregivers involved in his care, but no one person knew the whole story. I became that person. I knew what had been tried, what worked, what didn't, what mattered to him, and how his needs were changing. I could bring that complete picture to every new person involved in his care.

See the whole picture. Ask the right questions.

Find the way forward.

That experience shaped the advocate I am today.

I believe patients should own their healthcare. They deserve to understand what is happening, know their options, and have a voice in the decisions being made about their lives. When navigating healthcare becomes complicated, having an experienced nurse who knows you, listens carefully, and understands the system can make all the difference.

I intentionally keep my client roster small so I can provide the thoughtful, individualized attention that meaningful advocacy requires. My relationship is with you—not the hospital, the insurance company, or the healthcare system.

Outside of nursing, I serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for youth in the foster system. I also love traveling with my husband and four kids. We enjoy experiencing different cultures, meeting people, and seeing the world from different perspectives. I value curiosity, an open mind, and understanding that everyone’s priorities and experiences are different. Those values are also at the heart of how I work with my clients.
